The Artemisia line of art jewelry was created in 1992 when Cindi fell in love with a Belle Epoque steel-beaded purse in a Greenwich Village store window. She started making Opera Length (48 inches) necklaces, combining these antique microbeads with her extensive personal collection of vintage and modern lucite, crystal and glass beads. Each bead has its own “personality” and each piece making its own poetic statement in the eclectic Bohemian tradition.
Cindi then expanded the line into necklaces that she chains by hand, as well as bracelets, earrings, ankle bracelets, and eyeglass holdreyeglass holders, children’s jewelry, etc. The beads and clasps are sourced from all over the world.
Collectors respond to her daring, yet elegant, use of color and materials. Some individuals own as many as twenty necklaces. Most pieces are unique but some are Limited Edition pieces. Names or themes may be repeated, but as this collection is more art than fashion, rarely is a piece duplicated exactly.
Cindi takes great pride in her craftsmanship. Each piece possesses incredible “drape” and the earrings are weighted properly to aid in the wearer’s comfort. This collection is heirloom quality, unlike costume jewelry, that is only worn for a season or two.
All the jewelry is created in her studio in Manhattan's downtown’s Soho - proudly “Made in the USA”. Trained as a fine artist, Cindi Cericola attended Sarah Lawrence College and has an M.F.A. in Painting from Bard College’s prestigious Milton Avery School of the Arts.
Enjoying experimentation, she also collaborates with select clients if their ideas intrigue her. There is a 20% non-refundable design fee and 50% non-refundable deposit if we choose to work together.
She credits Leonardo, Chanel, Schiaparelli, Van Gogh, Duchamp and Bowie as artistic influences. Her studies in science, cosmology and history all further inform her vision.
"Artemisia" is in honor of both the Renaissance painter, Artemisia Gentileschi and Artemis-the Goddess of the Moon.
